CAN SARAH PALIN AND THE TEAPARTY MOVEMENT CHANGE THE WAY WASHINGTON WORKS

I asked this question on my Radio show a few days ago and I got a lot of responses.

Boy did I ever, the bottom line is yes, yes they both can and will change how Washington
Works! If nothing else both Sarah Palin and the Tea Party movement has sparked the great
debate on how bad our Political system is working and that is a good thing.

Whether you like or dislike Mrs. Palin she says what a lot of Americans are thinking. The difference is every time Mrs. Palin say something the Press and the Media on both sides of the spectrum will quote and analyze her every word. When Mrs. Palin speak the Media listens and that means what ever she is talking about is becoming a discussion around the water cooler and that is what we need dialog!

The country is in bad shape because We The People are not keeping a eye on what is going on. I’m not going to say that Mrs. Palin is the next Republican leader or she should run for President but like her are not she has energized a lot of people, and she has asked a lot of the right questions that needs to be answers.

The Tea Party Movement started as a small voice in March of 2009 and has grown to a deafening roar to the point that the movement is mention every day in the Media. Now as a person that works in the Media I know that there are News Stories that stay in the lime light and News stories that just move to the non issues pile and people forget them. The Tea Party Movement has sparked a flame with everyone that believes in the Constitution, small Government, lower taxes, free trade, Capitalism, no Government run Healthcare and ect…. Now if you listen to the Corp. Liberal Media you would think that the Tea Party Movement was a bunch of Red neck radical Right Wing extremists having a KKK Rally in the back hill of the South.

This is not true I have attended several Tea Party Rally’s including The Tea Party Bus Rally that was held in Dallas Texas. I had a chance to speak with people on the right, the center, and left they all had the same problems with our Government. The Tea Party Movement has given people a voice that has let our elected officials know they are being watched and they know that people will vote them out in November if they do not get their act together.

The bottom line is both Sarah Palin and the Tea Party movement has made News in the Media and that will shine the light on how well our Government is working!

“Rewarding Bad Behavior”

The State of the Union Address and the 2010 election season is in full swing. I can say I agree with some points the President made in his address. However, Congress showed those were just words the very next day by increasing their out of control spending. Spend…spend…spend is not the answer. We have become a society that rewards bad behavior and punishes those that succeed within the law. The banks mishandled their own money and to reward them, we give them more money to squander. However, the bank realizes that taking that money had too many strings attached and wasn’t worth taking thus gives the money back. The government being the ever watchful eye determines that those companies lied and these companies are successful. The solution? Hey! Let’s tax them into oblivion until they need to take our money. Ya! That’s ticket! Are you slapping your hand against your head yet?

My next point in this “Reward Syndrome” is giving people who break laws high leadership position. Tim Geithner doesn’t pay his taxes and then gets named Treasury Secretary. He states that he decision was careless. He breaks the law… the same law that would get you or I thrown in the Federal Motel and he gets a high-ranking job. A job no less where “Careless” behavior should be avoided. Again, are you slapping your head?

My next point tackling our runaway spending and spouting off about “Reward Syndrome” may just raise your blood pressure.  One of our big drains is our penal system. Why do we give criminals more benefits than citizens that work hard every day just to eat and achieve to live the “American dream” as opposed those that attempt to take it away through fear? While families are struggling to eat one meal criminals get three. While America is told to conserve water and energy, our Nations Worst gets clean clothes and TV time. Am I saying going to prison is easy? No… but when everyday, honest Americans are struggling and indentured to trying live the “Dream” I do take issue. Homeless rates are up, Jobless rates are up, and taxes are going up! They other issue which I will keep for a longer discussion is petty criminals doing longer time than Killers. Our thought process has somehow gotten thrown into Insanity.

“Fundamental Principles”

As we approach the November 2010 elections, it is an anxious yet exciting time to be a conservative. We are anxious because we are overwhelmingly in the minority of both houses of Congress, and the White House is currently occupied by possibly the most radical socialist ever to hold the office of President. It is also a very exciting time to be a conservative, because for the first time in quite awhile the American people seem to be awake and ready to make true changes to the “status quo”.

For nearly a century since the time of Teddy Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, and other “Progressives” we have been in a sort of “modern-liberal” era in which the country has gradually moved away from the original and limited meaning of the Constitution. The people have put up with it, because it was a subtle shift and never really seemed to affect them. However, with the election of President Barack Obama (who, for the record, I DO believe is a citizen) and overwhelming Democrat majorities to Congress, this move away from strict constitutionalism has been accelerated. This has caused the vast majority of people to wake up and realize that we are in deep trouble.

At the current time, we must support a set of three fundamental principles. There are many issues, but I believe they can all in one way or another be covered by these three things: Fiscal Responsibility, Strong National Defense, and Limited Government as defined by the US Constitution.

1. Fiscal Responsibility: This principle is made up of two parts: spending and taxing. The government must control its spending by spending money on only those things that it should be involved in. In doing so, the government will only need to tax enough in order to raise the money required to do those items.

2. Strong National Defense: This principle is the first and foremost responsibility laid out for the Federal government by the Framers in the Constitution. The most obvious thing that falls under this heading is military defense, but it also includes a strong border defense which has been seriously lacking in recent years. I am certainly not anti-immigrant, but I am anti-illegal immigrant. I believe that the United States (like every other nation on the face of the planet) has a right to protect its geographical sovereignty from a blatant (military) or subtle (illegal crossing by millions of aliens) invasion.

3. Limited Government: When our framers set down the US Constitution, it was intended to be limited to the enumerated (listed out) powers. As James Madison, the “Father” of the Constitution said:

"The powers delegated by the proposed Constitution to the federal (national) government are few and defined. Those which are to remain in the State governments are numerous and indefinite. The former (national government powers) will be exercised principally on external (outside of the states) objects, as war, peace, negotiation, and foreign commerce; with which last the power of taxation will, for the most part, be connected. The powers reserved to the several States will extend to all the objects which, in the ordinary course of affairs, concern the lives, liberties, and properties of the people, and the internal order, improvement, and prosperity of the State." (Emphasis mine)

In other words, if the powers are not listed (or implied by what are listed) then the Federal government has NO business doing them. They are to be left to the states! The vast majority of things that involve the Federal government have to do with war, foreign relations, and relations between (but not inside) the states. Notice that principle number 2 (strong defense) is covered by this. It is also interesting to point out that if government only spends money on doing the enumerated things and no others, then it will only need to tax to be able to pay for those enumerated things. Suddenly, we're back to fiscal responsibility. Ultimately, it all ties back to limited government. It's interesting that Ronald Reagan said, "Government is not a solution to our problem, government is the problem."

As we approach the coming elections, we must be very careful to elect the right people. This is no longer a time for “Party X = good, Party Y = bad”. We must look past the party labels to look at the actual people running. For me this will probably mean more Republicans than Democrats, because I believe that the Republican party tends to be closer to the proper constitutional view, but there are also good Democrats and independents who deserve support.

We must do our absolute best to determine the character of those candidates running for office. They must not give only lip-service to the “Big 3” principles, they must also govern by them! If at all possible, investigate the candidates you are thinking of supporting to see if their speaking matches up with their previous history. If it differs, demand to know why you should trust them to live by the fundamental principles. We must demand this of the incoming group of congressional members, or we will wind up of with more of the same. If they do not live up to their word, then we must have the courage to vote them out...even if it means voting for an opposing party. This is the only way we can ultimately keep our elected officials in check. The good news is that this time around the people seem ready to do this.

“The American People”

A phrase that conjures images of freedom, patriotism, and a mixture of cultures.  It’s also a broad-sweeping generalization used by media and politicians to artificially inflate the consensus of agreement for their ideas.  In the same way a prom-bound, teenage girl uses a Bump-It to give her hair that fuller look, far too many pundits are propping up their arguments with “The American People”.  We should not be fooled by any of this fluff, no matter how trustworthy we believe the source to be.

                                                                          

This erroneous inflating often occurs in the highest office.  In a December 23, 2009, interview with Jim Lehrer, President Obama said, “I think the American people want to see government solve problems, not just engage in the gamesmanship that has become so customary in Washington.”  The problem here is that Americans do not think as a whole. Even if the President thinks he knows what the American people want, he is operating from a false premise.

Not even polling mogul Scott Rasmussen can effectively calculate what the American people want, or need, or think, or like.  This is why God invented demographics, or as the Left refers to it, “profiling”.  TV and radio folks know what demographics are; their sales are largely based on them.  But, for the benefit of their own egos, or lack of better debate skills, most personalities on TV, and radio, cannot avoid conjuring this imaginary support.  They want you to believe we all think the same way, except for a few “radicals” who want to overthrow the republic.

There are, of course, many things that are generally true about the American people.  For example, we all cherish our freedom.  If we really care about what is happening in our country, we should listen actively, and in such a way that we notice when generalizations are made which could skew our perception.  Then, we can judge the soundness of an argument with the facts, and without the cuddly, I’m-on-your-side feelings emoted by a speaker.  Despite the insistence of her sycophants, Nancy Pelosi does not speak for the whole country when she says, “The American people need another stimulus package.”  And the prom queen is not a Conehead, no matter what the shape of her hair may tell you.
