And this little piggy sits in Congress pissing away all your hard earned money.
The House Republicans finally showed some resolve and stood in unity and voted against this $819 pile of pork. Along with them were 11 Democrats who also didn’t want to mortgage their great-great-grand children’s future. The bill passed, however 244-188.
What does this mean? Well, let’s take a look at what is in this so-called, “stimulus package.” For starters, let’s note the name:
STIMULUS: stĭm'yə-ləs
n., pl. -li (-lī').
1. Something causing or regarded as causing a response.
2. An agent, action, or condition that elicits or accelerates a physiological or psychological activity or response.
3. Something that incites or rouses to action; an incentive:
And as an Economic Stimulus package, it is supposed to re-energize the economy by creating jobs, improve liquidity in the capital markets, and improve consumer confidence so we go out and spend money (after all, about 2/3 of our economy runs on consumer spending).
That being the case, what is included in this so-called stimulus package?…As you look through where some of the money is going, recall the definition – particularly the part about improving YOUR confidence to go out and SPEND MONEY.
There's $1 billion for Amtrak, the federal railroad that hasn't turned a profit in 40 years; $2 billion for child-care subsidies; $50 million for that great engine of job creation, the National Endowment for the Arts; $400 million for global-warming research and another $2.4 billion for carbon-capture demonstration projects. There's even $650 million on top of the billions already doled out to pay for digital TV conversion coupons. Oh, and let’s not forget the 2 million for putting sod down on the National Mall. Wait! That was removed. How frugal of them to do that.
Let me quote our President as he stated several times on the campaign trail: “We are going to end an era of earmark spending…” Well, so much for that promise, huh?
What of any of that improves your confidence in the economy? Where do you see businesses expanding, hiring and growing in that money so “well spent”? Where do you see Obama’s 3.7 million jobs created? No where. The bill is over 1,500 pages of piled on pork. Everyone is clamoring to stick their piggy faces in the trough and start feeding on
your great grand children’s money.
Don’t forget we’ve already spent money that can’t be accounted for in the Oct. “Emergency Economic Stabilization Act 2008” (man, did that thing work well!) So, now we are looking at spending over a TRILLION dollars. Just for kicks, let’s analyze that.
A trillion has 12 zeros: 1,000,000,000,000
If you stacked dollar bills end to end, you could go from here to the moon about 200 times.
If you were flying in a jet traveling at the speed of sound and reeling out dollar bills it would take you 14 years to reach a trillion.
A trillion seconds is about 32,000 years.
If you piled $100 bills on top of each other to a trillion, the pile would be 800 miles high.
If you earn $50,000 a year, it would take you 20 million years to earn a $1 Trillion dollars.
Enough is enough!
“Sooooo-Weeee! Here piggy, piggy, piggy!”
Let’s hope people start thinking and that this spending spree dies in the Senate!
